Professional Experience
David is a partner in the firm's Pensions and Employee Compensation and Taxation practice areas.
David provides advice to both Canadian and foreign corporate clients. He advises on tax matters in business acquisitions, reorganizations and securities offerings. He has developed innovative retirement compensation and stock option arrangements for clients.
David has extensive experience with the structuring and taxation of domestic and off-shore hedge funds. He has particular expertise in advising on the tax implications of a variety of fixed income and equity derivative transactions.
David's pension practice includes advising on pension and benefits aspects of business acquisitions and dispositions, pension governance and surplus ownership issues. David has advised numerous clients in the recovery and sharing of pension plan surpluses. Of particular interest to David are the emerging issues of pension plan governance and member communications. He has assisted firm clients with comprehensive legal reviews of their plan governance structure. David has served as a member of the Financial Services Commission Legal Advisory Committee, a policy advice resource for the pension regulator in Ontario.
David speaks and writes regularly on tax, pension and benefits related topics and is a contributor of case comments to the Canadian Tax Journal.
