James Bond is a partner in the firm's Vancouver and Calgary offices where he practices as a member of the Business Law Group. He also serves as a member of the firm's Professional Services Committee and Inclusion and Diversity Committee.

James' practice focuses on providing tactical and pragmatic advice and services related to intellectual property protection, acquisition and exploitation, corporate and commercial transactions, privacy and technology law matters. He regularly negotiates and drafts acquisition, license, franchise, distribution, and financing agreements. He also provides strategic advice related to privacy and technology compliance. James' clients are concentrated in the technology services, biotechnology, software, franchising, service and retail sectors, and range from start-ups to major international corporations.

  • Advised an international financial services provider on privacy compliance obligations in Canada.
  • Advised a major American university on the privacy and copyright issues related to the acquisition of a major research collection.
  • Represented a manufacturer of pure chemicals and solvents in the acquisition of a U.S.-based manufacturer of high purity inorganic elements.
  • Advised a TSE company on the world-wide licensing of patents and know-how related to its targeted immunotherapy products.
  • Advised a software provider on its international privacy compliance obligations.
  • Represented a Crown Corporation in its negotiations with an international advertising agency for a multi-year international advertising services contract – annual spend of approximately C$18 million.
  • Advised a pharmaceuticals company on its acquisition of a competitor.
  • Provided counsel to a financial institution in its acquisition of and online bank.
  • Acted for a financial institution in its acquisition of numerous operations across Western Canada.
  • Represented a gaming company in securing a C$200 million revolving credit facility and a US$170 million term loan and to issue US$170 million senior subordinated notes for gross proceeds of C$600 million.
  • Represented several pharmaceutical companies on a variety of strategic alliances and joint ventures.
