Professional Activities
Michael joined the firm in 2009 as a member of the Securities Group and China Practice based in Hong Kong. Michael has experience in a wide range of corporate, securities and PRC matters. Michael began his career in Toronto where he articled with Heenan Blaikie LLP. He went on to work at the U.K. "Magic Circle" law firm Linklaters in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Michael is qualified to practise in Ontario and British Columbia.

Representative Transactions
- Advised Century Iron Ore Holdings Inc. in its listing on the TSX Venture Exchange by way of a qualifying transaction involving strategic investments by Chinese state owned enterprises WISCO and Minmetals.
- Assisted in the qualifying transaction of Beijing Biochem Hengye (now China Health Labs & Diagnostics Ltd.) and its listing on the TSX Venture Exchange.
- Advised IND DairyTech Limited on its RMB 100 million private placement of preferred shares to SAIF Partners III L.P.
- Advised a US bank on its restructuring of convertible securities held in a PRC real estate company.
- Advised a European executive recruitment company on its proposed acquisition of a leading competitor based in Hong Kong.
- Advised Dow Chemicals on its proposed establishment of a joint venture company to operate various port and pipeline facilities in southern China.
- Advised Becton Dickinson Company on the establishment of a medical equipment manufacturing Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise in the Suzhou Industrial Park.
- Advised a Canadian bank on the proposed establishment of a full service securities company in China through equity joint venture of a leading PRC securities company.
- Assisted in the Citigroup led consortium investment in the Guangdong Development Bank.
- Assisted in the Hong Kong main board initial public offering of the Uni-President Food and Beverage Company.
