Ted Urbanek is associate counsel to the Vancouver office of McMillan, and has practised exclusively in the area of intellectual property law since his call to the British Columbia Bar in 1994.  As a lawyer and a registered Patent Agent and Trade-mark Agent, his practice extends to all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent and trademark strategy counseling and the co-ordination of his clients' international patent and trademark portfolios, patent and trademark validity and infringement opinion work, the preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent and trademark applications, trademark oppositions, performing technology audits and due diligence investigations, drafting technology transfer agreements, licenses and related development and service agreements, copyright and industrial practice, and related litigation before the Federal Court of Canada and the British Columbia Supreme Court.

With a background in the life sciences and significant expertise in obtaining patent protection for inventions in the biotechnology and medical device sectors, as well as in the mechanical and high-tech sectors, Ted regularly advises clients on procurement, use and enforcement issues in relation to their intellectual property assets.
