Rankings and recognition

McMillan is proud to announce that John Clifford has been awarded a Lexpert Zenith Award in recognition of his efforts and many accomplishments to promote diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. The award was announced and presented at a gala dinner in Toronto on June 20.

Lexpert's 2016 Zenith Awards celebrate leading lawyers who have demonstrated excellence, action and thought leadership which advanced diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and their community.

John's contributions to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession are many. He is a founding member of McMillan's Inclusion and Diversity Committee, was instrumental in the formation of Fierté McMillan Pride, an affinity group for LGBT lawyers within the firm, and is an active member of the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network. He is Chair of the American Bar Association Business Law Section LGBT Involvement Subcommittee, which promotes inclusion of LGBT lawyers within the Section, diversity of Section membership and seeks to raise awareness of issues affecting LGBT lawyers, and is the Section's Liaison to the ABA's influential Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.
John also has founded and led a number of key initiatives in Toronto's business and LGBT communities. In 2007, he founded exeQutive, a forum which is devoted to promoting, supporting and strengthening the careers and business of Toronto-based LGBT executives, professionals, and business and community leaders. In 2014, he played a key leadership role in proudTOvote, a community initiative to mobilize members of the LGBT community to participate and vote in the 2014 Toronto municipal election.

Please join McMillan in congratulating John on this significant achievement.
