Vicki is a partner in McMillan’s Restructuring and Insolvency Group and has practised in the commercial insolvency field in Australia, England and Canada.
Vicki works with a wide range of clients, including lenders, insolvency professionals, challenged companies, suppliers, directors and officers, and other stakeholders, both in Canada and internationally. She has experience crafting commercial solutions for clients in such diverse fields as technology, retail, independent power generation, mining, forestry, and manufacturing.
Vicki works actively to promote and encourage women working in the insolvency and restructuring area and is the immediate Past Chair of the Western Canada Network of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC).
Vicki’s experience covers a wide range of matters, including:
- Counsel for Deloitte Restructuring Inc. in its role as Court-appointed receiver of Wedgemount Power, the developer of an independent run-of-river power project near Whistler, British Columbia.
- Counsel for Physical Enterprises Inc., a health and fitness software development company, in relation to its successful Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act proposal proceedings and business sale.
- Acting for Canadian and international suppliers in connection with the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) proceedings of Target Canada and Toys “R” Us Canada.
- Advising an online fashion retailer regarding its insolvency and restructuring options.
- Acting for monitors in the CCAA proceedings of mining companies with operations in Canada and overseas.
- Acting as representative counsel for over 3,400 investors in connection with the CCAA proceedings of a failed investment scheme with debts of more than $370 million.
- Acting for the senior secured lender in connection with the receivership of a multi-jurisdictional haulage company.
- Acting for the court officer in respect of the receivership and bankruptcy of one of North America’s largest pet food and supply retailers.
- Acting for the senior secured lender in respect of the CCAA proceedings of a large scale resort development near Victoria, British Columbia.
- Acting for the monitor in the CCAA proceedings of an international paper company.
